well, obviously i was deliberately trying to invoke a bit of that with its title, a none-too-carefully-concealed reference to "A Night On Bald Mountain"...

the winds that produce these effects year-round in that area wreak
annual havoc in the valley below, when the peak in the force,
duration and severity to become the so-called "Santa Ana Winds"
enjoyed my a large portion of Southern California each winter / spring...

that aside, I looked up, I grabbed the camera, I set up and shot...
I was still showing mostly black and colored fog for my night shooting
efforts up to that point, so I had no expectation I would get what I ended up with here...!

I have chosen this particular photo partly because I think that it is not too hard for the young minds an dpartly because it is quite dramatic.

I will probably give them the option of Abstract, Realist or Expressionist art after giving some info. about pastels, techniques and painting styles. Should be ok although they are only going to see me for only a couple of work shops due to the Easter break, first term holidays, sports day and various other holidays

I'd love to see this interpreted in traditional media...!

Well, they were pretty basic in their skills and I only managed to get them to do 3 different thumbnail exercises. Worst comes to the worst, I will paint a pastel painting from the photo if you like? In fact, I completed one last night of clouds in Kangaroo island, South Australia and I am going to submit one soon.
